Purpose

There is a party going on and you’re invited!

Guest post by Tama Kieves
There’s a party going on and you’re invited. It’s called your inspired life. It’s called stepping out of grim “reality,” the old way of seeing things and the prison bars of habit and self-inflicted limitation. It’s called reconnecting with your secret strength, invincible love, optimal thinking, and sudden clarity. You’re invited.
Here’s how the invitation shows up. It comes as a whisper, a hope, and a longing.  I wish I could just have some time to walk on the beach. I wish I could write and sell my novel. I wish I could do my own business in coaching. News flash: these aren’t just whispers. They are shuttle buses to your new life, leaving now. This is medicine. This is divine instruction. These are stock tips for the investment of your lifetime.

Why would you ignore your own genius? Oh, I know, because doing something you want to do can’t be right. But think again. If it feels good and exciting, it’s got power and energy, natural strength, and the ability to help you get past your fears and feel that “right feeling” that makes everything fall into place.

Tama is offering a retreat where you can learn to do this here.

How to understand, find and live your life purpose

Realize your connection to God and God’s plan for your life.  This plan is also your soul’s plan.  When you came to Earth you had a plan for how you would express God’s love here.

To trust is the foundation, understanding that there is a divine plan or dream for your life.

But you must understand that although you will be afraid, you can’t find this dream from a place of fear.   Love not fear is the path to finding this dream.  So the true foundation under the other foundations it that God loves you.  And from that place you must realize that you are taken care of, that you truly live in God’s grace.  These are major points to get across.  If you don’t realize that it starts with trust and knowing that God is there for you in every aspect of your life then you will be fearful and being fearful, it will be difficult for you to find the path that you seek.

Joy and play are clues to your path.  But if you don’t understand that you are taken care of then these joys and moments of play will be overshadowed by dark clouds of fear and foreboding.   You will be frightened about the next problem to come down the road.  So discovering our dream has to start with faith and trust.  Then we can proceed in a relaxed and peaceful way to understanding what our mission here on earth is.

What is God’s plan for our lives?  Everyone does have a plan. This is also a major point hat must be made.  Many people feel that they are not important, that their lives are meaningless and serve no purpose.   But your life does serve a purpose and it is important!  We are all God’s children.  This is a noble and important fact.  Now some religions want you to believe that you are an evil fallen creature that is not good enough for God.  From a certain perspective this is true.  We are all journeying up the road of perfection on our way home again.  But that does not mean that we are to feel bad about ourselves and focus on our lack of perfection.  Fear and guilt will not get us to Heaven.  Instead the path is to make more perfect that which is not perfect.  To always seek greater perfection.  And we do this though expressing love for our fellow man as well as the other living creatures on the planet.  Love is the way to heaven. How does all this affect our life purpose.  Our truest dream is God’s dream for our lives, which is our souls truest dream for our lives. And this dream is our life purpose.  This dream is greater than any dream we could ever imagine.  This dream has to be separated from ego or false dreams, the limited dreams and aspirations of man that usually revolve around our survival.  Our power comes from being connected to God’s grace and love and letting God’s love for the world move though us as freely as possible.   Therefore our purpose is to live God’s dream for our lives in the world as freely as possible.  There are three aspects to this.

1.  There is understanding this whole idea.   Many do not. (Awakening)

2.  Then to discover our life purpose. (Discovering)

3.  And finally to life our life purpose by sharing God love with the world. (Living)

There are many out there who want you to believe in the adage “Do what you love and the money will follow.” The idea that one had to first find their dream on their own and then figure out a way to make a living at it and then they would be happy.  This is incorrect.  First comes the happiness which comes with a realization that God loves you.   Then comes the understanding that God has a plan for your life, a greater dream.  Then we will want to share that love as much as possible with the world.  Thoughts about how to make a living and how to make money will only block the flow of God’s love. Give these things as little thought as possible because they are inherently fearful.   Trust is the key.   It is also better to share your love with the world in the most unconditional way possible.  This is scary and does not make sense from a worldly perspective, but it is the best way.  Do not concern yourself with survival issues.  Once you realize God’s dream for you life you will become aware of all the Heavenly help that is available to you.  Then you will not feel so alone and you will feel free to help others without being overly concerned about your own well-being.

Focus on others. How can you help them?  What can you do for them?  Always believe in the unlimited not the limited, because it is from the unlimited that all things come.

This path is a path of discovery where every step of the way it is revealed what God’s plan or dream for you life is.   This journey can take a day or a lifetime.   But is essential that you become couscous of this process.   The more conscious you are of this process the easier and faster it can happen.   Some times this is delayed because there are things you need to learn that you would not want to learn if you knew the overall vision for your life.  But if you approach every situation as a lesson to help you then you can speed things up, because as soon as you have learned what you needed to learn you will be released from that lesson plan so to speak.  So each step of they way more and more will be revealed and you will be equipped with more and more tools to help you along the way.  Joy is a beacon and so is love and play and how you feel.

Once you understand what your purpose is, the next essential part is to start sharing that with the world as much as possible in as many ways as possible and as unconditionally as possible.  Let the energy, love energy, God’s energy, flow out to the world.   This is why it is important in the beginning to know that you are taken care of.    When you fully embrace your purpose you will be are transformed from a human being to a human angel on Earth.   This is a very important step because now we can assist in the creation of Heaven on earth.   This is done with the power of love as express by your purpose.   When you’re living in alignment with this divine plan for you life you will be as happy as you can be because nothing feels better than to do God’s work.  You will feel complete and whole like this is what you were born for and it’s true, it is what you were born for.  When you are not doing this work you will always feel the angst, that something is just not quite right.

Not to worry there is lots of help to help you find that place and there is no reason everyone on earth can’t find this place.

Once your realize your life purpose, once your realize that you are doing what you came to earth to do.  Then you will naturally want to share it as much as possible.  It’s just built into you.  You will want to share it.  The problem is people become overly concerned with their survival and then the energy becomes stifled.  A contraction occurs so to speak.  This is where trust comes in.  We have to remember we are taken care of and this is a difficult thing to do on earth.  This is why it is vitally important at this point to live in the spirit and to depend on God for all things.  If you try to live your purpose but depend on the world to do it you will only have failure. So a good spiritual foundation is essential.

Do not go back to the old way of depending on the world.

Pray and meditate as much as needed until you find that place of peace where you know without-a-doubt that you are taken care of.

So sharing is the next part, share your love with the world because that is what your dream, your purpose is–love, the form does not matter, in the end it is love, God’s love going though you, into the world in what ever form it takes.  Our dream, our art, our love… to be effective it must be shared.   And we do not just share it conditionally, for only fame or fortune, to get rich or for what we can gain.  Because love needs nothing, it only goes out to do good in the world.

We must share our dream with no thought of return.  This is the only way to maximizes the benefits to others.  And this is the purpose of our life here to help make the world a better place,

…to bring — Heaven to earth.

Start Living Authentically.

Are You An Existentialist?
by Alexander Green of Spiritual Wealth

I recently received a letter from an Atlanta Falcons player who told me he quit the NFL not long after reading my book The Secret of Shelter Island.

“I realized I was living someone else’s dream, not mine,” he said. “The truth is I haven’t enjoyed football since high school.”

Some might be surprised that anyone would walk away from all that money and celebrity. But perhaps he’s an existentialist. They recognize the dangers of living an inauthentic life.

Who, exactly, are the existentialists and what do they know?

Existentialism is a philosophical movement that came about in the late-19th century. It is not some abstract set of theoretical truths. Rather it is a no-nonsense philosophy that encourages you to take a hard look at your life and ask two essential questions: Who am I and how shall I live?

Its goal is to awaken us from our slumber, have us grab life by the lapels and start living authentically.

Unfortunately, there is no particular school that offers a systematic account of existentialism. Its founders were fierce individualists who avoided labels, detested “-isms,” and refused to be lumped into any group.

So there is no grand philosophical system here. Essentially, existentialism exists at the intersection of the essays of Friedrich Nitzsche and Jean-Paul Sartre, the novels of Albert Camus and Fyodor Dostoevsky, the religious writings of Soren Kierkegaard and Paul Tillich, and the plays of Harold Pinter and even William Shakespeare (particularly Hamlet and King Lear.) Clearly, existentialism is older than the term itself.

The philosophy is based on six general themes:

  1. Acceptance of the Absurd. Each of us drops unexpectedly into this world, in a universe where time – at least as we know it – has no beginning, space no end, and life no pre-set meaning. It is an inexplicable mystery. This realization is hardly new, of course. Ecclesiastes kicks off with the words “Vanity, vanity, all is vanity. What does man gain from all his labor and toil here under the sun?” (Ecclesiastes 1:2-3). Existentialists believe that it’s only when you confront the fundamental absurdity of life that you begin to live honestly.
  2. Personal Freedom. Life itself may be meaningless, but you give it meaning when you begin making important choices. These, in turn, reveal who you are. With freedom of choice, however, comes responsibility. Taking ownership of your decisions means not blaming your parents, your spouse, your teachers or anyone else for the shape of your life. More responsibility brings greater freedom. And with it: hope.
  3. Individualism. Existentialists are keenly aware that society continually pulls you toward conformity. There are immense social pressures to go along, get along and live pretty much like everyone else. Existentialists challenge you to buck conventional wisdom, express your true nature, and follow your dream, whatever that may be.
  4. Authenticity. Most people are so consumed by desire, guilt, fear or anxiety about what other people think that they find it almost impossible to follow their true calling. However, it’s only when you begin to do what you want – and not what others expect – that you begin to live authentically. But expect resistance. Institutions want to mold you. Other people want you to go on their trip. It’s far easier to live unthinkingly as part of the crowd. Yet authentic individuals are in control of their own lives.
  5. Passion. Being passionate and engaged is crucial. This doesn’t mean acting crazy or hysterical. Quite the opposite, in fact. Existentialists believe you should devote yourself to a cause, one that you’re willing to organize your life around, perhaps even die for. For Kierkegaard, that passion was the pursuit of truth. For others it may be artistic expression, healing the sick, or building a business that employs hundreds and serves thousands. In all walks of life, you’ll find that passionate men and women are more purposeful.
  6. Acceptance of Death. Life is finite. Yet existentialists don’t see this as a reason for pessimism. Facing death is what forces you to take life seriously, use your time wisely and make meaningful choices. It should invigorate your life. As the character Andy puts it in The Shawshank Redemption: “Get busy living or get busy dying.”

Nietzsche, the philosopher most closely associated with existentialism, refers to it as the noble ideal.

Your life, he argues, is an unwritten book that only you can write. Or, he says, visualize your life as a kind of artistic project, except that you are both the sculptor and the clay.

This concept runs throughout existentialist works. Martin Heidegger counsels that we should learn to “dwell poetically.” Kierkegaard offers that, “to exist is an art.”

All existentialists agree that life has the meaning you choose to give it. Sartre even declared that man is “nothing else but what he makes of himself.”

This view is fairly widespread in the West today. But it was once considered revolutionary. The Catholic Church, for instance, decided that Sartre’s ideas were so dangerous that it placed his entire works on the Vatican Index of Prohibited Books – including those he hadn’t yet written!

Ideas can be dynamite. And the proclamation that you should live your life on your own terms rather than according to the dictates of an institution was explosive.

Perhaps that’s why existentialism is called the philosophy of freedom. No matter how things stand in your life, you choose how to interpret your situation. You choose how to respond to it. Even if you do nothing, you still have made a choice. There is no escaping the consequences of your actions – or your inaction.

This makes some people profoundly uncomfortable, of course. They don’t like facing up to the world as it is. They don’t want responsibility. It’s easier to blame others, circumstances or “the breaks.”

Existentialism, however, is known as “the no-excuses philosophy.” You may be old. You may be broke. You may be sick. But existentialists say you start from where you are and move forward. How? By accepting responsibility and making choices.

This isn’t always easy. Pursuing authenticity requires relentless self-examination. It exposes you to things about yourself that you may not want to know. It may cause discomfort or friction with others.

But inauthentic lives, by comparison, are shallow, trivial and unsatisfying. They are often marked by the dogged pursuit of material goods, social status or the approval of others.

In many ways existentialism is a return to the roots of philosophy, a return to the ancients’ concern with truth, virtue and the art of living well.

Existentialism offers a guide to the perplexed. It shows us not just how to live, but how to flourish, how to create meaning in a senseless world. Those who reject this philosophy often do so not because they don’t understand it but because they can’t face it.

And that’s unfortunate. Existentialism provides a practical way of thinking about the world. It offers personal freedom and empowerment. It is a path to dignity and nobility.

An existentialist doesn’t live as though he has forever, frittering away his time and putting off until “someday” the things he really wants to do. He or she recognizes that each day, each moment, is precious and irreplaceable.

Are you an existentialist? Only you can say, of course.

But perhaps you should be.

How to Get Your Life on Purpose

by Ingrid Bacci, PhD

Each of us has an inner compass, an infallible mechanism for self-direction or guidance. You can call it your inner pilot or, if you like, you can call it your soul. It doesn’t matter what you call it. What does matter is that whenever you are actually listening to this inner compass and following its guidance, you tend to feel peaceful, focused, dynamic and alive. When you do not listen to its guidance, you tend to feel scattered, unfocused, nervous, lethargic, and possibly ill. What most people don’t understand is that there is a timeworn, ancient and reliable process for learning how to stay in touch with the focused, peaceful and dynamic part of you that wants to take you to your true goal, and to support you in putting on that incredible theatrical performance that is your life.

That time-tested, age-old process has one defining characteristic. It involves undoing the

negative habits that keep you from owning your soul, your life purpose.

Let’s say the same thing in another way. Most people think that if they could only identify their purpose, they would be happy, focused, energetic and alive. They think that what is keeping them from pursuing their purpose is that they don’t know what it is. But that is not the way things actually work. Finding your purpose is like finding a clear-running current in a river: it takes you effortlessly along your way, but only once you get past all the log jams and garbage that choke up some of its tributaries. Similarly, if you get rid of your own log jams, your purpose will take you effortlessly. You will recognize it by the fact that where you are feels right. You will have let go of resistance to the current of your life.

The problem, of course, is that most of us are addicted to the log jams of our lives. We may say to ourselves that we would rather not have them, but we cling to them. We cling to worry, to fear, to self-doubt, to procrastination, to staying in intolerable circumstances, to accepting abuse, to giving abuse, to self-medicating with drugs, food or alcohol, to seeing life as unfair, to blaming reality, others or ourselves for our situation, to thinking someone or something else is supposed to save us and make it alright, and so on. We cling to what we say we don’t want.

I have written about some of these issues and how to free ourselves from them extensively, in my first book, The Art of Effortless Living. Stay tuned also for my next book, currently being completed. In the meantime, here are a few reminders about finding your purpose, becoming the champion of your life, and truly learning to live your dreams:

1)      Practice centering yourself every day of your life: through meditation, yoga, breath awareness, prayer, and so on. Make inner peace your strongest value, notice when you let something else take priority (something like anxiety, fear, disappointment, restlessness) and return to making your center the most important thing.

2)      If something in your life is not working for you, you have three options: change yourself, change the situation, or leave the situation. If changing yourself (for example, listening more, or becoming less impatient) is not the solution to the problem, work on changing the situation (telling others in a respectful but firm way what you need in the situation). If changing the situation doesn’t work, then summon up the courage to let it go. Leave the job that doesn’t work, the relationship that is abusive or demeaning, the social network that is no longer life affirming for you. You can’t get what you want if you don’t have the courage to leave what isn’t working for you.

3)      Practice courage. The word courage is derived from the French word for heart, spelled “coeur.” To have courage is to have a big heart, and to have a big heart is to have courage. Be courageous, step out for what you want. Give others their due, and don’t try to force your opinions on them, but have the courage and the heart to live a life that makes sense to you. There is no other way.

4)      Remember that this world needs people who are calm and courageous, people who own their own power. Give to the world by giving the best of yourself: your inner peace and your courage. You will profit, and so will everyone else. Yes, even if they get mad at you at times, and resist the direction you take, your calm and your courage are the best gifts you can give to others. Why? Because every person finds their purpose when they build their calm and their courage, and every person learns how to do that primarily from having the example around them of other  individuals who are doing the same thing.

Dream Warriors are Rainbow Warriors

We must totally surrender our purpose to God.

We must totally surrender our lives, our purpose and its implementation to God.

Here is the good news or the bad news depending on your perspective.  Really it’s more than that.  It’s not going to be enough to just acknowledge God in the process, we must totally surrender to God. In this way we become the process that God uses.  You must understand that you will not be in charge of this process.  God will be in charge and you will surrender to him, it or she.  This is the way it has to be.  The part of you that might be having a hard time with this is your ego, the part of you that is under the delusion that it is separate from God.

God is the key to your life purpose and its implementation.

Let’s just lay the cards out on the table right now.  God is the key.  There is no getting around this fact.  We cannot save ourselves.  We cannot make our dreams come true or discover and successfully live our life purpose without God.  Others talk about plans and strategies to live your dream as if it is an excel spreadsheet and all we have to do is form a grand plan and then implement it with discipline.  But that’s all ego.  And it’s not real.  In that case you’re just play acting a role in a fantasy.  What we want is to live a real authentic life plugged into a deep conscious power.  Well God is that power! And, the only way we can really do anything deep with true meaning that’s going to make a real difference in our lives and the planet is to acknowledge God in this process.

This is ultimately a battle between God and your Ego.

Your ego mind to be exact.  Here is something else you might not have realized. The you that thinks it’s you, is not really You! In all likelihood unless you are one of the few enlighten beings on the planet, the you, you think you are is really a fake role that you play called your ego.  There is a much deeper truer you called “your true self.” Becoming aware of this “true self” and though it, tapping into God’s power is the key to living your life purpose.  The main impediment to this is your ego.  It is determined to keep you in a permanent state of distraction, separation and fear so that you will never ever get in touch with who you really are and thus keep you and the rest of humanity in a permanent state of darkness.  Therefore, there is one thing that must be done for you to succeed.  Your ego must die.  This is the battle.  It is a battle for your freedom and it is a battle that will be won!  This is why you are a Dream Warrior!  We literally are all depending on it.  If you do not realizes this dual aspect of yourself than you will never understand a thing I am talking about.  It will all seem crazy and insane. Understand that the part of you that is thinking this is crazy is your ego persona.  Not who you really are.

Global Oneness

What Would It Look Like?

What if the world embodied our highest potential? What would it look like? As the structures of modern society crumble, is it enough to respond with the same tired solutions? Or are we being called to question a set of unexamined assumptions that form the very basis of our civilization?

This 25-minute retrospective asks us to reflect on the state of the world and ourselves, and to listen more closely to what is being asked of us at this time of unprecedented global transformation.

The Four Stages of Awakening to Your Life Purpose

Stage one – AWAKENING
In stage one, we are the restless. We go through life asleep to our true purpose for existing. We feel restless, searching for meaning in the meaningless things of the world. We live a never-ending search, looking for happiness and peace in everything outside of ourselves. At some point, we realize we are barking up the wrong tree and turn within. Many times this will be brought on by a crisis in our lives. Eventually we start to awaken to the idea that we were born to make a difference; that there has to be something more to our lives. We are not just cogs in some machine. We realize that who we truly are is important and that we have something meaningful to contribute to the world, even though we may not know exactly what that something is. It is at this point of awakening that we enter stage two and begin the journey of finding out exactly why we are here and what we are supposed to do with our lives.

Stage two – DISCOVERY
In stage two, we are seekers, determined to discover what is our gift, what it is that we love to do? We start noticing what we really enjoy doing for the pure joy of it versus for money and recognition. Eventually we understand without a doubt what it is that we love to do, and we realize that this is our gift for the world. Once we realize what this gift is, we can enter stage three.

Stage three – INITIATION
In stage three, we are artist, determined to cultivate our gifts and win the battle against our ego and the many inner demons that arise to convince us that we are not worthy, not good enough, or that no one will need what we have to offer. We will deal with issues of survival, and money. But eventually we will defeat these demons. We will begin to understand that there is a larger purpose for what we love to do; that there is a loving higher power that is guiding us; that what we love to do is a necessary and meaningful part of healing the planet. At this point, fears about survival will be washed away by our deep desire to help make the world a better place. We will finally answer the questions: “Why am I here?” and “What am I supposed to do with my life?” When we realize that we are to heal the world with our gifts, we enter stage four.

Stage four – PURPOSE
In stage four–the last and final stage–our life purpose has become clear. It is clear who we are, why we are here, what are our gifts, and how we are to use these gifts to heal the planet. Now our focus shifts from what we can get with our gifts to how can we can give and contribute unconditionally. Now we see that there is much work to be done. No longer do we stand back and feel powerless. With God at our side, and his love in our hands, we boldly jump into the fray. When we give of our gifts freely and unconditionally to the world, we have become dream masters!
